CONTINUING LEGAL EDUCATION
- VOLUNTARY CLE
- TO: Members of the Hartford County Bar Association
- FROM: CLE Committee
- The Continuing Legal Education (CLE) Committee of the Hartford County Bar Association (HCBA), in conjunction with the Board of Directors of the HCBA, has adopted a voluntary CLE program with an incentive toward participation by all members. We hope that by providing quality CLE, we can help maintain the competence and professionalism of members of the Association and encourage all members to participate in CLE.
- Every member of the Association should complete at least twelve credit hours of approved CLE, including one credit hour of ethics CLE each reporting year. The reporting year for purposes of calculating the credit hours shall run from September 1 through August 31 each year. Any member may carry forward from the previous reporting year any excess credits over the minimum twelve credit hours. To be carried forward, the credit hours must have been earned during the reporting year immediately preceding the current reporting year.
- At the end of each year, each member will certify on a form distributed to the member by the Association, the member’s approved CLE hours earned during the preceding reporting period.
- Members who comply with these rules by completing the minimum recommended hours of approved CLE provided herein shall receive special recognition in The Hartford Courant indicating the person’s membership in the HCBA, the oldest Bar Association in the United States, together with recognition of the member’s dedication to competence and professionalism by participation in CLE. The Association shall maintain a list of attorneys who have complied with the minimum recommended hours of approved CLE and make that list available to members of the public at their request. Each member is also encouraged to find out from such member’s malpractice insurance carrier whether rates will be affected by the member’s attendance at approved CLE programs.
- Credits may be earned toward the minimum of twelve credits per year by attendance at (a) Hartford County Bar Association sponsored CLE programs, (b) any program that is approved for CLE credit by other state, local, specialty or national bar associations, or (c) participation as a panelist in any approved CLE presentation. The CLE Committee will review for approval any additional courses, whether attended or taught, upon written request of the member.
- The CLE Committee hopes that the Hartford County Bar Association will lead the way to 100% participation of all of its members in a voluntary CLE program. The incentive of public recognition for participation will enhance the reputation of the Bar Association and the lawyers who have voluntarily participated in these programs. Our service to our clients will be better, our reputations will be enhanced, and we will have accomplished this through voluntary and enjoyable CLE activities. The CLE Committee of the HCBA is committed to the presentation of timely and convenient programs that will both inform our membership and provide camaraderie amongst the attendees.
- Please keep an eye out for notices of CLE presentations, and participate in those that you feel would assist you in your practice. The CLE Committee welcomes suggestions for CLE programs and welcomes your participation as attendee or presenter.
