A Letter From Your President
December 21, 2020
Fellow Members of the Hartford County Bar Association:
It is customary during this time of the year to look back and take stock of the many blessings bestowed upon us over the past year, and to look forward with hopeful optimism to what awaits us in the year ahead. For some this year that may be difficult, while for others there may be a recognition that for all of the challenges and heartbreak of 2020, there are still reasons to feel fortunate and be thankful.
To be sure we live in a country that is politically divided and beset at times with turmoil. On top of that we have been and remain besieged by a pandemic that has caused suffering for many and disruption for all. But if we dwell on the negative it becomes easy to lose sight of how fortunate we really are. We live in the greatest country in the world. We enjoy tremendous freedom and prosperity. And we are members of a profession that provides not just a living for us and our families, but an opportunity to grow, to lead, and to benefit those who are less fortunate.
As President of this Association I look back over the past calendar year and I am reminded of many reasons to be grateful. I am grateful to Jan Ambruso, Jeanette Bonee and Carolyn Hills for their sacrifice in helping us balance our budget while maintaining their unwavering commitment to our Association. I am grateful for the support, ideas and inspiration provided by my Executive Committee: Pat Tomasiewicz, Jennifer Wheelock, Kevin McEleney and John Laudati. I am grateful for the hard work of our Board of Directors and our Committee Chairs for their leadership. I am grateful for our many Past Presidents, who have reached out to share wisdom and support. I am grateful for the Hartford County Bar Foundation, which continues to raise money and awareness for those with basic needs in our society. And I am grateful to all of you who have recognized the value of this Association and have reached into your pockets to renew your membership and participate in our programs even when it may have been personally inconvenient to do so. Despite the challenges we have faced our Association remains strong because of each and every one of you. And therefore I am optimistic about what lies ahead.
Whatever challenges you may have faced in 2020, I hope you find peace and prosperity in 2021. Whatever divisiveness you have witnessed in our country, I hope you have faith in your fellow citizens. Whatever your point of view on the politics of our nation, I hope you find reason to believe in the worth of our governmental institutions and its leadership. Whatever your faith, I hope you find reason to give thanks for the many gifts provided by our Creator.
